How Can I Stop Focusing on the Sound of My Voice?

How does one stop focusing too much on the sound of his/her own voice?  For me it is creating a lot of tension but it’s a habit I can’t seem to shake!



STOP IT!!! Lol…

Basically, get out of your own head… whatever way you can.

Honestly, this is something I’ve struggled with, and there were a few things I did that helped me get past it. First, I’d just mentally focus on anything else. I’d actually choose 3 different things in the room to look at while I was singing, and contemplate what they were. It just got my focus off of my singing.

Ironically, my singing became much easier.

I also like moving around. Walking casually releasing the arms from side to side, keeping the body really released and tension free.

I know this sounds weird, but it’s was a good starting place for me (and some of my students) towards getting out of my own head and just allowing my voice to do what it was designed to do.
