How do you sing a little higher if your voice is deep?
Having a deep voice can be a real asset! However, sometimes it’s not as easy for guys with super deep voices to sing higher.
Typically, this is because they’re trying to sing the same way in the upper part of their range as they do in the lower part of their range. Said differently, singers with deeper voices pull their chest voice up too high, making it difficult, if not impossible for them to sing much higher.
The solution… change your method.
Most singers build pressure as they sing higher. What you should do instead is sing with the same amount of pressure as you would if you were speaking. It should be 100% effortless. Then, just take this balance up in your range with you.
Your voice may not feel stable at first, nor will (or should) you have the same amount of volume initially. Just make sure you don’t practice this with a breathy voice as you go higher, as this is a sign of a lack of cord closure and is a step in the wrong direction.
Once you get a little bit more used to that balance, you’ll be able to lean into the sound more and create a fuller sound.
