My friends say I’m good at singing and should go for my dream of singing but should I?
-Savannah

Hey Savannah,

Unfortunately, that’s not a decision I can make for you. The music business isn’t always the easiest business to make it in, nor is it the nicest. You’ve got to want it, and want it bad enough to keep learning, keep pushing, and be willing to accept rejection over and over.

But here’s what most people don’t realize anymore… hearing no isn’t a bad thing. Every experience is a learning experience. But, your education comes at a price, and the currency you pay that price in is persistence. You’ve got to be willing to hear “no” 100 times for every 1 “yes.” Society tells us that those “No’s” are us failing, but the reality is they are our most valuable learning tools if we’ll let them be.

So I’ll leave you with this. If you have a dream, and you want it bad enough to keep moving forward no matter what, then go for it. I do what I’m passionate about every single day. Most people complain about having to go into work, where I have smile on my face because I do what I’m passionate about. But, I faced a lot of opposition to get where I am, and I refused to quite until I figured out how to make it work. Can you do that? If so, then you may just have what it takes.

Just know that I wish you the best of luck along your vocal journey, regardless of what path you choose to take.

Best,
Vocal Coach Ken Taylor
