What if My Voice Doesn’t Sound the Way I Want it To?

What if your voice doesn’t sound the way you want it to?v

I’m a firm believer of the idea that if you don’t like something in your life, change it. Since you’ve contacted me, I’m assuming you’re already in route on trying to figure out how to do just that.

I don’t know exactly what it is about your voice that you don’t like, and what you’d like to see it turn into, so I can’t give you specifics, but here are a few tips.

1. If you’re able to get a singing teacher, be sure and find one that can help you learn the type of music you’re interested in (too many teachers try to teach only opera or musical theatre, which is fine if you like those styles, but not so much if you don’t).

2. Read through some of the articles on and watch the videos on By doing this, you’ll be introduced to some new ideas as to how a singer can create their sound, and if you spend some time trying to apply these concepts, you’ll likely see a difference in your voice.

3. Finally, be willing to play around with your voice. Remember, singing is an art. There’s no science to an art, just ideas as to what different individuals like. So be willing to play around and discover the different things you can do vocally. The only caution I’ll give you here is if your voice starts hurting, then I’d stop for a bit as your voice will keep you informed as to when you are pushing yourself too far and possibly could hurt yourself.

I hope these ideas help, and best of luck discovering your new voice.
